The Sword of Liang Daiyu is one of eight weapons enchanted by an ancient Chinese sorcerer that can only be harnessed by its rightful owner.
History[]
Ancient Times[]
Legend has it that the sword holds an ancient magical power; a power beyond anyone's imagination. If someone were to collect all eight weapons, their powers would be unlocked and they would be unstoppable. The legend of the Sword of Liang Daiyu warns that if this item, along with the other seven were to fall in the wrong hands, the weapons together will cause great devastation and destruction.
Under Liang Daiyu's ownership[]
During the Tang Dynasty, possession of the sword had eventually gone to Liang Daiyu, a women who lived in a faraway Chinese village. According to the myth about her, when all the men in the village went off to war, a band of raiders attacked. Daiyu grabbed her grandfather’s sword and single-handedly kept the raiders at bay. The next day, she began training the other women in the village. Pretty soon, they weren’t just protecting themselves and their homes, but turning the tide of the war taking place at the time.
Present Day[]
In Pilot, Nicky Shen explains to Henry Yan that she had only seen the sword once before, and that her shaifu had warned her that it was hidden for good reason. Pei-Ling Zhang went onto tell Nicky, that the sword is the reason why there are female shaolin at the monastery in the Yunnan Province.
Prior to her arrival in San Francisco,Nicky had fought against Zhilan, and when Nicky temporarily grabbed it, the swordglowed a bright green light. Though she assumes that it could have been the lightning reflecting off it or something along those lines. Unfortunately, Nicky couldn't hold onto it too long, for it eventually burned her, and left behind scars that looked like some kind of ancient dialect on her hand.
Using his vast knowledge in Ancient Chinese Art History, Henry eventually realized that the ancient sword Nicky was talking about was in fact The Sword of Liang Daiyu. He was surprised to hear that the aforementioned sword had survived through all this time.
After a trip to the University of California San Francisco Parnassus Campus, Henry found an amazing colection of ancient Chinese texts. Which led him to the conclusion that the reason it didn't burn Zhilan when she picked up the sword, is because she is the rightful owner. But since she is only after power, Nicky is likely the foe that has risen to stop the biange.
In Silence,Nicky find out through Evan Hartley that Zhilan is in Singapore. But more importantly, he found out that Zhilan is Pei-Ling’s sister.
Meanwhile, at the stacks of the library in San Francisco, Henry tells Nicky that he found the symbol. It’s a symbol for one of the families guarding each of the eight weapons, which makes Zhilan and Pei-Ling part of these guardian families. His name is Winston Chau, who is a professor that is an expert in these symbols.
Around this time, Zhilan managed to confront Winston in Singapore and kidnap him to interrogate him for the next weapon, which the professor believes in as actually existing and not just a legend, which Zhilan knew from his hidden research on the Shuang Gou. As Zhilan continues to try to break through his reference to the Shuang Gou as only a legend, Professor Winston turns the tables by his own knowledge of her crane necklace, the insignia of the Zhang family, one of the Guardian dynasties, her sister Pei-Ling and the murder of their father, which angers her. She manages to get him to cooperate by revealing her possession of the Sword.
Zhilan then kills Winston by poisoning the coffee she brought him and then acquires the Shuang Gou by sending a team of mercenaries to raid the Musfad Palace in Dubai for the artifacts from Dahliar Ahmusfad.
