On May 3, 2021 it was announced that The CW had officially renewed Kung Fu for a second season due to premiere sometime in the 2021-2022 TV Season.[9] Later that month, on May 25, 2021, it was revealed that Season 2 won't premiere till sometime in the midseason 2021-2022 schedule for The CW.[10] On July 23, 2021 Eddie Liu went onto say on Twitter that Kung Fu would get a second season and would air sometime around January 2022.[11]
Trivia[]
- Robert Berens and Christina M. Kim both felt it was important for Nicky to return to the monastery for the Season 1 finale since it would be full circle from the Pilot. [12]
- At the end of the Season 1 finale it's revealed to the audience that Xue Mei has a daughter. Olivia Liang teased that this previously unknown cousin would be Nicky's foil for the next season and enemy. [13]
- This cousin is also part of two separate bloodlines: a warrior in Xue Mei's and a guardian (Unknown father) Bernes teased the following What does that mean? That there is someone who has basically fused these two mystical bloodlines. So, I think we’re setting up a very interesting foil for Nicky in season two.[12]
- Olivia also promised that her character's immediate family will be more involved in the mythology of their family “I know that Biange energy has definitely followed [Nicky] to San Francisco,” “Because she’s part of the bloodline of warriors, and the Shen siblings and Mama are also a part of this, I think they might get a little bit more involved with the magic and the mythology of it all.”[12]
- On August 26, 2021 it was announced that Yvonne Chapman who heavily recurred throughout season 1 as Zhilan Zhang was promoted to the main cast for season 2.[3]
- On March 3, 2022 it was revealed by Christina M. Kim and Ludi Lin that Kerwin Tan would back for season 2.[4]
